A common way to establish credit is to get your parents to add you to one of their credit cards as an authorized user. This may add their accounts to your credit reports, depending upon the credit card issuer’s reporting policy.

Another way is to open a few retail store accounts. These are typically easy to get and can help to establish a credit report in your name. If you are a college student, many credit card issuers have special programs that allow students to open low-limit unsecured student credit cards. If you can manage them responsibly, this is another good way to establish credit.

Finally, secured credit cards are always a good option, both for new credit users and those who are working to rebuild their credit.
