The average wedding costs a whopping $27,000 these days! That’s an incredible amount for an event that lasts 8 hours at the most. And average costs are even higher if you live in a major city. As someone who is recently engaged and living in San Francisco, I know these statistics all too well.

This started me brainstorming other problems that could be potentially solved by a reporting bureau solution. The internet has already created a few systems along these lines. Sites like Yelp.com work as a type of credit reporting agency, gathering and distributing opinions about restaurants and stores. F*$%^ed Company does the same thing for employers.

Four months later, these reforms were formally proposed with the introduction of H.R. 1461 into the House of Representatives. The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act of 2007 was introduced on May 9 by Representatives Udall and Cleaver and will:
Require credit card issuers to give consumers advance notice of credit card rate changes. Freeze credit card rates and fees on cards that are closed by consumers.

Super premium credit cards are the newest must have luxury for the wealthiest and most famous Americans. And leading the charge (pun intended) is the American Express Centurion Card. Made out of titanium, it’s one of the most expensive credit cards in the world.

Later this summer, a new edition of the Game of Life will hit toy store shelves. This game will feature credit cards instead of cash in a collaboration between Hasbro and VISA. Called “Twists and Turns,” the goal of the game is to earn “life points” instead of to see who can retire with the most cash.

Being a huge credit nerd, I love it when credit gets a mention in mainstream culture. It’s becoming more and more common to see story lines about identity theft, credit cards, predatory lending, etc. on TV sitcoms, movies and music. One of my favorite credit mentions right now is from British pop singer, Lilly Allen. The song, Everything’s Just Wonderful is catchy and the refrain goes like this:
