Discover ups cash back offer for some credit cards this holiday season

Discover is doubling its cash back offers for consumers who have its Discover More, Open Road and Motiva cards from 1 to 2 percent, according to a report in the Christian Science Monitor. While the company won't make a profit on any of the transactions it processes on these cards, it is counting on consumers taking on enough debt that it carries over from one month to another.
The promotion will run from November 15 to December 31, and consumers will have to sign up online to receive the double points, as they do for Discover's occasional 5 percent cash back bonuses, the report said. In addition, the offer is limited to up to $1,000 in purchases.
Many credit card lenders have begun upping rewards offers for consumers in an attempt to incentivize them to take on more debt, as many have scaled back their credit card use considerably in recent months.
