Utilize credit card rewards during holiday shopping season
By Credit.com Staff
Many consumers are trying to avoid holiday debt by sticking to a budget this year, but there are additional ways they can maximize their savings. Credit cardholders may benefit from examining how many rewards points, airline miles and cash-back offers they have accrued and determine what they can receive after redemption.
Accumulated rewards could present cardholders with airline tickets, hotel stays, cash redemptions and vouchers for restaurants and entertainment. Many lenders also have agreements with certain retailers that allow shoppers to receive special incentives for making purchases with their credit cards, such as discounts and free shipping offers, Fox Business reports. Cardholders can determine which retailers may offer special incentives by looking at their lender's rewards website page.
Purchasing small items with cash and buying large-ticket items with a credit card may be beneficial because consumers will earn more rewards points and benefit from credit card protections not afforded by debit cards. However, consumers should still try to stay within their holiday budgets to avoid overshadowing their savings with high credit card bills.
