I was contacted by this company stating that I owed money from a payday loan I had taken out May 2008. Eric Matthews was his name and he was very rude and said that if I didn't pay $1,095.87, the police was going to come to my house and arrest me and take me to jail. Just wanted to get this out there!

Thanks for the alert! It is very likely this company is making illegal threats. Although debt collectors cannot threaten to take any action they cannot legally take, and don't intend to take, rogue collectors will say anything to collect.
If you are threatened by a debt collector, be sure to take detailed notes, get as much information as possible about the company and either talk with a consumer law attorney and/or file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov) and your state attorney general.

I recieved the same call stating the same total was due from the same month May 08. I know for a fact this is not a debt I have and this has to be a scam. They did have all of my personal information, including my address stating they would be sending someone by on monday with legal documentation. I am wondering if the first person on this ever received follow up information from this "Law Office" in regards to this debt. This is clearly being run out of India

I received a phone called from the same guy today. Their names were Alan Parker and David Jones but they seem to be the same person. However, this gentleman had all of my information: social security number, checking account information, and mailing address. Who do I need to contact to file a report. I've been a victim of identity theft and I'm still working on restoring my credit. I don't need another obstacle at the moment. Please help.

I would recommend you complain to the Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General's office for your state (www.naag.org). Keep a written record for your files. If they call again, ask for their address. If you believe the debt is not yours, you can send a cease contact letter telling them it's not your debt and instructing them not to call you again.
Please keep us posted on this scam!

This company is still up to its old tricks. My husband and I were just contacted by Neil Johnson, from American Credit Services, out of "New York" (or so they say) informing us we owed money from a internet payday loan company and we had committed internet fraud....we would be arrested tomorrow and put in prison for up to 4 months! They had all of our personal information and wanted us to agree, as they were recording our call, to the statements they were making. We have never received a loan and would not agree to anything. That is when they started treating us that we would have to appear in court at 11:00am tomorrow morning, we would be charged with internet fraud, would be put in jail, could be sentenced to 4 months in prison, etc. They became very defensive when I told them I wanted to speak to an American born person that did not have any accent, I ask them why there was so much background noise, like they were calling from a large room with lots of other callers in the background....they told me they were remodeling their office!!! When I called back, first dialing *67 so they wouldn't have my phone #, they answered "how may I help you?" When I began asking what the company name was, where they were located, etc., he would not answer...he kept asking who I was and if I had an account with them. When I would not answer and just kept asking him questions about the company he told me to F... off! Don't ever fall for this scam, which we are sure is run from the middle east.
