We received a report this morning about a loan scam using a new business name: Glenwood Lending Group. Here are the details:
I'm pretty sure this is a scam, I would like to make sure before i go sending money I don't have.
I've been working very hard to get my credit score up, and doing well, but it's still not good enough to get a loan on my own (and have no one to help me). I tried applying to an online app and got a call from a Corry Fisher of Glenwood Lending Group ( address is 6601 winchester ave kansas city mo 64133 phone # 888-314-3204).
My first red flag was no caller id, then I was told I was turned down from other banks but they would approve a loan for $10,000 (what I was asking for). the loan would be for five years, fixed rate of 7%, and monthly payments of $200. Now I have another red flag, $200 x 60 months = $12,000 that's 20% not 7%. Then he tells me that the lender will need me to send them the first 6 payments ($1,200) before the lender will release the funds as proof I am not a id fraud case and they would make the 7th for me. Another red flag.
They faxed me an loan agreement that looks very legit, terms, conditions, and laws. And signed by Andrew c Rogers, ceo. I've been told I have till 3-24-09 to get this completed and faxed back with my id and the signed agreement. After I have faxed all this I will be told where to send my check and if I would like certified check or money transfer to my account. If you could let me know what you find I would be thankful.
Glenwood Lending Group has a website (glenwoodlending.com). Of course, it was only created at the end of February according to a Whois.net search.

I bet this is done by the same people who did parklanelending.com and burlingtonfinancial.com - burlingtonfinancial.com has already been shut down (yeah). The websites were all created on the same date in February and they are all similar - very cheesy music and the same writing style, the stock photos may be different, words are different, but everything is way too similar, definitely the same scumbags. Besides the BIG red flag of asking to send in money before you get your loan, there are also a lot of other red flags - the site is not a secure site so anyone could read your personal information such as your social, there is no physical address or phone number - to contact them you need to send in a request. And what kind of company asks you to send in funds to make sure YOU are not a fraud! That's a good one!

I wouldn't wait until the 30th - they will be LONG GONE by then! I'd call Western Union and report a fraud immediately. I think someone else reported the person's name and it prohibited that person from ever picking up money at Western Union again. If you do it soon enough, maybe it will stop someone else from being scammed.

I have a contract in from of me - makes no sense - to pay upfront 5 payments of for a total of 1550 on a 10k loan - why not just loan me 8500? Very clever though - paperwork looks like a loan agreement.

I find myself calling these 'scammers' to listen to their voicemail/answering services and have found 1 thing in common... they all have the same operator voice.
This one from Glenwood has the EXACT same voice/ greeting/ office hours as my scammer at Bennet Financial Group.

I went through all of the same stuff everyone on this thread did. My lending contact was Timothy Walker, except when I received the paperwork, it said Timothy Walters. He said it must have been the receptionists mistake. My loan was denied by banks, but an angel investor would cover then loan for 5 up front payments.
I have reported this company to the FTC, saved all documents they sent me and a copy of their web page. I have never reported anything to the FTC before so don't know what to expect, but I have not heard back about it at all so far. This was about a month ago.
Good luck and don't fall for it!

I too was scammed but i caught on just in time. I sent glenwood lending a man named Adam Preston at extension 315: $800.00 on the 25th day of March. When I called him yesterday about my money being transferred into my bank account he had said that because my credit score was still bad that they needed me to send an additional $500.00 along with the fact that he said something was wrong with my bank account. After this had happened I told him that I was not sending anymore money to them because it was taking out of what my family needed and my bills that I needed to pay. He told me that he would refund me back the money and that it will be in the western union that afternoon. No one sent me anything in the western union/ money gram and I called again then he said he would have to send it in the mail. I told my fiancee about it and he used to work for wall street and he knows that any small or big brokerage should be in NASDAQ. Adam said that his company wasn't in NASDAQ. That's when I called the consumer division, the FBI, attorney general.

Anyone who has been scammed I highly recommend you go to IC3. com and report it . From what I understand this is a government run agency and there are several cases on there that have been busted. Check it out and report your scam so they can stop these people!

During the week of March 16th thru the 20th, I had been applying online to different sites trying to get my pickup refinanced with someone due to my credit history and how high the payments are. I received a phone call on the 20th of March from Cory Fisher of Glenwood Lending Group 6601 Winchester Ave. Kansas City, MO 64133. Phone number 888-314-3204 ext 281. Fax number 660-956-0100. He informed us that he had good news for us and that his company would be able to finance us with $1,300.00 down. He said this would be used as our collateral and the 1st payment wouldn’t have to be made until October 2009. He said he would fax us an agreement which would need to be signed and faxed back to him by the 25th. He also said we would 1st have to send a money gram to him that night to show that we were serious about the loan and that we would be able to come up with the money for most people don’t. He said we would need to go to Wal-Mart, get the money gram, and call him from there to receive the recipients name to send it. He would not give us the name of the recipient any sooner. He said it depended on who we were going to get the loan with, that he was a very busy person and to call him from Wal-Mart.
Needless to say we immediately went to the bank, cashed a check for $1,300.00, called him back, got a name of a person to send it to which was a person in Canada. Her name was Kimberly Vincent, Petersburg, Manitoba, Canada. When we questioned him about the name being an individual and it being in Canada he said it was perfectly fine, he said she was a accounts receivable clerk that they use.
We sent to money and when we got home on the fax machine was a legit looking contract on the fax machine that we needed to sign and fax back to him. The persons name on the bottom of that contract was (Lender Authorization Signature) Andrew C. Rogers CEO.
The contract that they made up and the way everything is set up sounded very legit.
Monday and Tuesday the check (23,000.00) amount of the personal loan.)never showed up, we called him on Tuesday and he said give it a few more days and if it doesn’t show up call him back. We called Cory Fisher back on Friday afternoon because the check had never showed up. He told us to call customer service extension 731. We did and we got a Terry Evans on the phone. He informed us that he had tried to call us several times (we showed no evidence of that, nothing ever showed up on the caller ID) He said due to my debt ratio and credit history, that they (the creditors) would need an additional $1,300.00 down and that they would need it by the next day (Saturday the 28th) or the financing wouldn’t go thru. We both tried talking to him and ask him questions a couple of times and he would talk to us a little and conveniently hang up. It was to my benefit that it was going to be too late to go to the bank, get more money, and send another money graham, it gave me more time to think something was up and then I did a little research. They still looked legit most of the time but when I called information about the number, they didn’t show any listing for them in the Kansas City Area, the fax number was to a different place, things just didn’t quite add up. I finally landed on a site, Credit.com when had a forum about complaints on this scam, show the exact numbers and names that we had.
Terry Evans said he would call us back for the number at 9 am Saturday morning for the money graham. 9 a.m. came and he didn’t call us so we tried to call him back 45 min later. Tom asked him for a return of our money and he hung up on us again. Needless to say, we should have investigated 1st and we are scammed, I am sure, but we still would like to pursue trying to get them caught and our $1,300.00 back. That is money we cannot afford to loose.

Obviously these guys are pros and have absolutely no conscience. The sad part is that as the economy worsens, more and more people are going to fall for these scams unless we continue to get the word out there.
Thomas and Brenda - Thank you so much for sharing your story.. with your story and others like it, we might be able to help other innocent people from being victimized these guys.

After reading all these various complaints with the Glenwood Lending Group I know I too have also been scammed. I just didn't catch enough red flags in time or see enough signs. Your site (credit.com) was sent to me by a good friend who works with the consumer department. I wish I had checked beforehand but sometimes desperation to take care of debt and bills pushes aside patience and research. This is definitely a lesson learned and I will process my complaint via the site my friend suggested (I will note it at the end), the Better Business Bureau (funny, Glenwood's info is no longer posted as of 03/30/09), and any other suggested sites. Here too is my story:
I have been seeking a loan for the last 2 months to help pay off my auto loan. I searched various sites online and applied for secured and unsecured personal loans. Some loans were with banks directly and others with lending groups that help you find loans.
I received a callback from one of the lending groups, Glenwood Lending Group, out of New Jersey (888-314-3204). I spoke with a Ruben Lopez (X165) who indicated to me they had found a lender who would offer me a $8,000 secured loan for 48 months at a 7% fixed interest rate. The only requirement was an initial payment due to my bad credit history. He indicated five (5) initial payments of $190 (totaling $950) were required but the payments would go towards my loan as loan payments therefore receiving positive credit in my credit history. For the other loan requirements, I could make higher monthly payments at my leisure or pay off the loan early without inquiring any penalties. He also indicated that I would not start payments on my loan until 6 months later due to the initial payment and a 30-day grace period.
At this time, I researched Glenwood Lending Group via the Better Business Bureau website and their profile listed no complaints but also no other information on them other than an address and phone number. They had a "F" rating due to there wasn't enough information on them to rate them properly.
Ruban faxed me the loan agreement to review, I asked questions to make sure I understood everything, I was satisfied with the answers and the agreement, so I signed and faxed the agreement back. He called me the next day to inform me that the lender agreed to remove one (1) payment and I could pay $760 towards the loan instead of $950. I requested to have the loan agreement redone so there was no confusion. I agreed I could handle four (4) payments instead, and Ruben indicated he would provide me the instructions for sending the money after I faxed back the signed agreement. He indicated once the transaction was processed and the money was received via a Moneygram confirmation number, the lender would release the money to my bank account within 24 hours.
The fax was sent back and Ruban provided me the following information for sending the money:
1. Moneygram ONLY:
Ruban indicated the transaction would cost me $40-$60. He said if the fee was anything less, it was incorrect. He said cost to send the money would be put towards my loan and my first monthly payment would be minus this cost.)
2. Receiving Country: CANADA
3. City: Willowbrook, Ontario
4. Receiver: Caroline Manning
I was instructed to list a person's name rather than a business name because if the transaction was associated it with a business name, I would be charged an expensive cost to send the money.
This is probably the point where I should have caught on to it being a possible scam.)
5. Amount To Be Sent:
03/12/09: $760 (initial loan pay't) + $48 (Moneygram) = $808.00
03/16/09: $760 (initial loan pay't) + $48 (Moneygram) = $808.00
6. Receive Options: MoneyGram Location
7. Sender: My name, address and phone number.
8. Reference/Transaction#s: 78775561 (03/12/09); 84988224 (03/16/09)
I went to Shaw's Supermarket in Porter Square, Cambridge MA on March 12, 2009 and I completed a transaction to the Glenwood Lending Group via Connie Manning for $760. I received a receipt and confirmation (Ref# 78775561) and I contacted Ruban Lopez of the transaction. He indicated he would turn me over to the accounting department, handled by Terry Evans (X731) to complete the process, and that also since it was so late in the day I should receive the funds the next morning (March 13th). He said if I had any problems to contact him in the morning. I then spoke with Terry Evans, we reviewed my agreement, he indicated I would receive a package and a payment booklet. I requested to have the funds deposited into my account rather than receiving a check and provided my bank information (routing number/checking account#). Terry informed me I would receive the funds in my account within 24 hours and to contact him with any questions.
I checked my account the next morning and then called my bank to see if a deposit to my account was pending and they indicated there wasn't. I contacted Ruban Lopez to express concern of the deposit, he was concerned as to why I hadn't received the money and said he would further investigate the situation. He asked me to call him back in 10-15 minutes if I hadn't heard back from him within that time. I didn't hear back so I called him back. This time was different because Ruban would always answer the phone but this time he didn't. I made several attempts to no avail. I preceded to contact Terry Evans of the accounting department to find out the status of the deposit and at the time he indicated to me that Ruban Lopez was no longer handling my account.
At this time, Terry indicated that the lender decided after re-accessing my credit history that they wanted an initial four (4) more payments to put on the loan since it was a sizable loan request. I expressed that I was guaranteed the loan and couldn't understand why. He indicated that it is stated in my loan agreement that the lender is allowed one time to reaccess and determine if they want to approve the loan or request additional payments. He said if I made the additional payment they could not reaccess again and t hey had to guarantee me the loan automatically. He said if I wanted a refund of my initial payment plus the cost to send the money via Moneygram he would issue the refund. He said it would be issued on March 28th (their pay period cycle date) and I would receive the refund as a certified bank check via overnight express. I was frustrated by this time due to my deadline with my car loan so I told Terry I would think about it and he indicated to let him know as soon as I could. At this point, I was going to end it and not go through with it but my car was a major concern so I was willing to try one more tactic and if it worked I would proceed.
I contacted my uncle on March 15th and after a lengthy conversation he was willing to loan me the money, so the next day (March 16, 2009) I contacted Terry that I had the additional money and he guaranteed me I would receive the funds in three (3) hours directly to my checking account since this was all that was left to do. I went back to Shaws in Porter Square, Cambridge MA and made another $760 transaction via Moneygram to the same person (Caroline Manning) and the same information noted above then contacted Terry Evans with the reference number (Ref# 84988224). He said I was all set and to keep an eye out for the deposit within 3 hours. 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours went by and still no deposit. By this time my bank was closed and transactions were closed so I had to wait until the next morning. I contacted Terry first thing the next morning on March 17th and indicated I did not receive the funds. He said he would look into it and call be back in an hour or so. I contacted Terry after a couple of hours and he indicated the lending bank had pulled out on my loan and decided they didn't want to give me the loan. Terry indicated to me he had another lending group that was willing to give me a $10K loan but required more money and I said "absolutely not" and refused. I told him if he could not find me another lending company with the initial payment I had already made by Friday, March 20th I did not want to pursue any further and wanted my money refunded. He then indicated he would search for another lending company for me based on what I had already put down and would contact me.
We went back and forth for the last four (4) days up until March 20th and at that time I informed Terry I did not want to pursue a loan any longer and wished to have a refund issue. He informed me he would process the refund which would be mailed out via overnight express on Friday, March 28th and I would receive sometime between 10AM and 3PM on Saturday, March 29th. I requested a overnight tracking number and he indicated he could not provide me one because the refund is issued via another department and everything is done by automation so the tracking number would not reach me in time (I would already receive the refund). I expressed this didn't make any sense and a person is always given a tracking number to track a package but he kept on insisting any problems I could reach him.
Saturday, March 29th I remained home the entire day because I was not feeling well and the overnight package never came. I could not contact their office over the weekend because they are closed. I spoke with a friend over the weekend about my situation and she referred me to the Cambridge Consumer Affairs Department to see if I could get any assistance on my complaint.
Today, March 31st I made two (2) attempts to contact Terry Evans regarding my refund. The first attempt I left a voicemail message expressing concern and the status of the refund. I also went back to the Better Business Bureau site to obtain their information again but their listing is no longer. I remember they were out of Plainsfield or Plainsville, NJ. I believe that the information is listed on my paperwork but that may not even matter anymore at this point.
Here is the suggested site I promised at the end:
http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
I hope and pray for the best and an outcome for all of us who have been scammed by these people. May they charged to the full extent of the law. I hope this reaches as many people as possible so they can avoid this and many other scams out there. Thank you.
