installment loan chargeoff

i aquired a loan for myson & daughter in law for in vitro fertilization. they both worked at the time and made payments. 10 days after she was positive for pregnancy, their boss fired both of them. they still havent found work and i paid the loan for 6 months until i couldn't pay anymore. i sold stock, stopped my 401K, ran through my savings just to support them, buy essential baby items, i made 6 car payments for them, etc.... when i called Capital 1 to explain, they wouldn't help me. now that i havent paid them in 4 months, they want to help, but they wont give me much time. the original oan was for $25K, i've paid $6k and owe 26K now. i begged them to lower the finance rate and let me pay principal for awhile, but they said it wasn't in their policy. they offered a one time payment of $12K but gave me a week to come up with it before they send it to a collection agency. any suggestions?

Would it help to write to collection agency telling them I cannot repay right now?

I'm dealing with two different accounts that are 1 1/2 years past due and obviously in collections. They have sent me settlement offers but I cannot even do those right now. Would it help if I sent a Certified letter stating I cannot repay my debts right now, that I am a stay at home mom, have no assests, etc?? What could their reply be?

Hardship Agreement

Hello....I spoke with Citibank today to attempt to set up a hardship agreement. They offered to lower my interest rate to 0% for 12 months if I allowed them to close the account and set up automated payments. Will this have an adverse effect on my credit score? Is it possible to pay additional principle above the minimum payment? The person I spoke with advised it would have a negative effect on my credit. My question is how much?

Should I settle with a collection agency?

I have poor credit that I'm trying to get back in order and I need a little advice. One issue is an old credit card that I defaulted on back in 2007 and was charged off by the bank (about $700). At this point its been with a collection agency and they have recently offered me a settlement amount of only 40% of the debt. I called them and the guy said that it would be marked as Settled in Full on my credit report.

My question is, should I pay the settled amount and if so, should I have them send me something in writing that it will be marked as Settled in Full? (The letter I have from them only states that "...your account will be considered settled.")

And FYI, he gave me one of those "let me talk to my manager" spiels so I don't necessarily trust the guy.

Any advice you can give will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Question concerning credit card reporting to credit bureaus "Settled" vs "Paid In Full"

:?:Is it possible to negotiate a credit card settlement and have them report to the credit bureaus the account is "Paid In Full" instead of
"Settled In Full" and " Settled for Less Than Full Balance" which means exactly the same thing - that the creditor "settled," receiving less than the full amount owed.
Any credit card reporting "Account Settled" is a big negative mark, correct?

Settling and its effects on; acquiring future student loans and my Fico score.

I have 3 credit cards with B of A and can hardly keep up with the payments. I’ve not made a late payment yet, but I believe settling may be my best option (borrowing money from a family member and paying of the remaining debt in one lump sum). I want to know how this would effect my ability to obtain loans for school…I understand it wouldn’t effect my eligibility with Federal loans, but what about the private loans? Also, what can I expect to happen to my Fico score if I go this route? My score now is currently in the high 700’s.

Thank you greatly.

Is there a statute of limitations on debt?

I cleared up all my debt with collection agencies years ago and have rebuilt my credit to in the 700s. Now, all of a sudden, a debt with a Sears cc has come up with a collection agency, who is collecting for another collection agency. I have found that there is a statute of limitations on this type of debt, 6 years. This debt is from 1994 and I made every effort to straighten out debt years ago. I am told I should mail out a registered letter requesting all info regard this account that they have.
I'm just looking for some advice on wether or not to tell them "To late buddy." and pass on the federal laws in regard to this to them. I did quit well straightening out my credit/debt issues before on my own, settling about 20k for around 2.3k.
Thank you for any input.

Hardship Agreements

Can you explain the difference and/or benefit of accepting a hardship agreement from a credit card co? It sounds like a Debt management program without the 3rd party - the acct is already closed, and I can make the payments required, with an end in sight with the debt being paid off in 60 mths. Will it affect my credit for as long as a settlement or bankrptcy would?

debt consolidation loan

my credit score currently is 721 and i am approx $35,000 in debt. credit card that is. I am thinking about a debt consolistion loan to pay it off. The one loan I found has a lower interest rate than all my cards and can offer a $30,000 loan with a very reasonable payoff amount every month for 60 months. If I choose to take this loan would it help or hinder my credit score? I would like to keep it good if possible.

- wishing to be debt free
