Loan scam asking for upfront fees via email money transfer. Credit Leader Inc canada

I was contacted by a lending Firm here in Canada called Credit Leader INC. was approved, for a loan of 8,500.00, I asked them to send me the legal documentation, so my lawyer could look it over, and they said that I would have to send 300.00 upfront, and they would send the legal documents via Federal express when the funds were transfered. As soon as they said this I thought SCAM, so I looked online for this company, and could not find it, I checked with Canada 411 for the phone number they gave me, and low and behold, there is no listing. The phone number I have for these people is 514-564-9790. When he called me to see if I was going to send the money to him, I asked why I could find no information about this company on the web, he said, well web pages are so easy to hack, that we don't have one, when I asked why the number could not be found, he said they had it unlisted, so banks would not harrass them for taking business from them.I told him that I wanted legal proof that this was a legit company, and he said well when you wire the money to us, you will be able to trace it, as we deal with the bank, So I thought okay, lets see what they have to say, he told me to open an account at a bank that deals with email money transfers, and to set up a payment to them, told me what to use as a security question, and what the answer would be, he also said once this was done, I would be able to trace where the money was. I called my bank and asked questions about the email transfers, and this is what they said. Be advised that when you do send a email transfer, it can be deposited into ANY account, as long as the person has the answer to the security question, that you will provide. There is no way to get it back, once you send it..
These people have now found a new way to collect money. Please be careful, as they try to make you feel secure in knowing your money is going through the banks, but it is just like sending it via western union..Please use your first gut reaction when dealing with these companies, as it is usually right.
These people are still calling me, and threatening me with legal action for not paying thier fees from all the paper work it took for this, trying any scare tactict to get me to send money. They are saying that they are going to take my home, car, and anything that is in my bank account, if I do not pay these funds.. Don't let anyone bully you into sending money.. I have since contacted the police, and have them dealing with this case.

Possible Scammer: Altec Financial Group

All,

Please take care and be careful with this company..I had applied for a loan through
the Hillcroft financial Lending website (which may be a front for scammers) and was
forwarded to Altec Financial Group. I was contacted by Vanessa Washington from
the company. We discussed my situation and she sent me paperwork for the loan that
she had worked up and rec'd approval on .. the paperwork looked legit, but not enough
legalese I thought..potential first red flag. (I was still sensitive to my first scam attack)

The problems started when I noticed a security deposit for the loan - I had been
approved for $10k @ 7% for 5 years. they asked for a $1375 security deposit. but Vanessa
told me that they would not deduct it from the loan proceeds.. I had to send the cash
upfront to her..I think I got suspicious when she said to use Western union..but I don't
exactly remember..All I knew was at that point, I knew this was not a good scenario.
As part of the loan, I also had to agree to an insurance policy on the loan which was part
of the total amount of the principal. While they do show up in the BBB listing as an Advanced
Fee Broker (Denver,CO or US BBB listing), I also noticed in further research that a similar
company name had also been in Canada and had been labeled as a scam. further search
results seemed to confirm my suspicions..
I also did another check earlier today and this gentleman's story popped up... Very
similar except I didn't send any money..http://www.bustathief.com/altec-financial-group/
And , to make matters more pertinent, it was right about the same time I interacted with this
individual as well. I will note that on all the paperwork, I saw just about every type of job title
in a company.. a note from the CEO, a VP welcoming me, Account rep, Account executive,
Accts Receivable Manager, all signing their portions of the paperwork.. etc...

Company Information as noted on the documentation I rec'd:
Altec Financial Group
1400 16th St Suite 350
Denver, CO 80202
Contact : Vanessa Washington
1-888-811-1051
email : AltecFinancialGroup@gmail.com

Please watch out for this company !

Financial Help website haunted by Scammers?

All,

Just want to give a heads up to this website... I put an add out for financial assistance
and managed to almost get scammed twice.. Looks like scammers are prowling amongst
the postings on this site.

The site is called : http://www.ineedfinancialhelp.net/

There may be legitimate transactions taking place but I was scammed out of some financial
and personal information (no money was sent..but I was unfortunately fooled..). and after
that transaction, I was hit again by another person, although I was on high alert, unfortunately.
If anyone is considering using this site, please be careful.

also, I can see postings to a companion (if one can call it) site.. it can be found at this link:
http://www.needfinancialhelp.org/

Hope this helps...

Possible New Scam

I was researching a home loan when I was contacted by a company called SilverStar Lending out of Maywood, NJ. They claimed I was approved for $120,000 but had to send them a collateral payment of $6200.00 They emailed me a copy of a "contract" that I was to sign and fax or email back to them. The form was shoddy at best and created using Microsoft Word. the format was all wrong and there were some other errors. I went to their web site WWW.SILVERSTARLENDING.COM and it looked like it was also created quickly.

I dug a little deeper and found the host and was able to create a similar site in about 10 minutes. I then did a domain search and it came back as being registered to an individual in Canada and the domain was registered just 3 days before I got my "approval" Luckily I did not go through with the request and called the person back and informed him I was not using his service. The toll free number I called sounded like it was a forwarding service to a different phone number.

Just wanted folks to beware of another possible scam.
MORGAN WITTER LENDING IS A SCAM**************

THIS WEBSITE IS A SCAM TO GET YOU TO SEND MONEY TO THEM FOR A LOAN******** DON'T DO IT!!!!! IT'S THE SAME PEOPLE FROM GLENWOOD LENDING GROUP!!!!!!!!!!! READ WHAT HAPPEN TO ME FROM THE SAME PEOPLE USING ANOTHER COMPANY'S NAME BELOW. THERY ARE THE SAME PEOPLE! DONT SEND THEM ANY MONEY! YOU WILL NEVER GET THE LOAN! HERE IS THE WEBSITE! THEY SHUT THE LAST WEBSITE AND PHONE DOWN AND I NEVER SAW MY MONEY AGAIN! TRUST ME! PLEASE READ BELOW!

HERE IS THE NEW SCAM WEBSITE:

http://www.morganwitterlending.com/index.html

After reading all these various complaints with the Glenwood Lending Group I know I too have also been scammed. I just didn't catch enough red flags in time or see enough signs. Your site (credit.com) was sent to me by a good friend who works with the consumer department. I wish I had checked beforehand but sometimes desperation to take care of debt and bills pushes aside patience and research. This is definitely a lesson learned and I will process my complaint via the site my friend suggested (I will note it at the end), the Better Business Bureau (funny, Glenwood's info is no longer posted as of 03/30/09), and any other suggested sites. Here too is my story:

I have been seeking a loan for the last 2 months to help pay off my auto loan. I searched various sites online and applied for secured and unsecured personal loans. Some loans were with banks directly and others with lending groups that help you find loans.

I received a callback from one of the lending groups, Glenwood Lending Group, out of New Jersey (888-314-3204). I spoke with a Ruben Lopez (X165) who indicated to me they had found a lender who would offer me a $8,000 secured loan for 48 months at a 7% fixed interest rate. The only requirement was an initial payment due to my bad credit history. He indicated five (5) initial payments of $190 (totaling $950) were required but the payments would go towards my loan as loan payments therefore receiving positive credit in my credit history. For the other loan requirements, I could make higher monthly payments at my leisure or pay off the loan early without inquiring any penalties. He also indicated that I would not start payments on my loan until 6 months later due to the initial payment and a 30-day grace period.

At this time, I researched Glenwood Lending Group via the Better Business Bureau website and their profile listed no complaints but also no other information on them other than an address and phone number. They had a "F" rating due to there wasn't enough information on them to rate them properly.

Ruban faxed me the loan agreement to review, I asked questions to make sure I understood everything, I was satisfied with the answers and the agreement, so I signed and faxed the agreement back. He called me the next day to inform me that the lender agreed to remove one (1) payment and I could pay $760 towards the loan instead of $950. I requested to have the loan agreement redone so there was no confusion. I agreed I could handle four (4) payments instead, and Ruben indicated he would provide me the instructions for sending the money after I faxed back the signed agreement. He indicated once the transaction was processed and the money was received via a Moneygram confirmation number, the lender would release the money to my bank account within 24 hours.

The fax was sent back and Ruban provided me the following information for sending the money:

1. Moneygram ONLY:

Ruban indicated the transaction would cost me $40-$60. He said if the fee was anything less, it was incorrect. He said cost to send the money would be put towards my loan and my first monthly payment would be minus this cost.)

2. Receiving Country: CANADA
3. City: Willowbrook, Ontario
4. Receiver: Caroline Manning

I was instructed to list a person's name rather than a business name because if the transaction was associated it with a business name, I would be charged an expensive cost to send the money.

This is probably the point where I should have caught on to it being a possible scam.)

5. I received a receipt and confirmation (Ref# 78775561) and I contacted Ruban Lopez of the transaction. He indicated he would turn me over to the accounting department, handled by Terry Evans (X731) to complete the process, and that also since it was so late in the day I should receive the funds the next morning (March 13th). He said if I had any problems to contact him in the morning. I then spoke with Terry Evans, we reviewed my agreement, he indicated I would receive a package and a payment booklet. I requested to have the funds deposited into my account rather than receiving a check and provided my bank information (routing number/checking account#). Terry informed me I would receive the funds in my account within 24 hours and to contact him with any questions.

I checked my account the next morning and then called my bank to see if a deposit to my account was pending and they indicated there wasn't. I contacted Ruban Lopez to express concern of the deposit, he was concerned as to why I hadn't received the money and said he would further investigate the situation. He asked me to call him back in 10-15 minutes if I hadn't heard back from him within that time. I didn't hear back so I called him back. This time was different because Ruban would always answer the phone but this time he didn't. I made several attempts to no avail. I preceded to contact Terry Evans of the accounting department to find out the status of the deposit and at the time he indicated to me that Ruban Lopez was no longer handling my account.

At this time, Terry indicated that the lender decided after re-accessing my credit history that they wanted an initial four (4) more payments to put on the loan since it was a sizable loan request. I expressed that I was guaranteed the loan and couldn't understand why. He indicated that it is stated in my loan agreement that the lender is allowed one time to reaccess and determine if they want to approve the loan or request additional payments. He said if I made the additional payment they could not reaccess again and t hey had to guarantee me the loan automatically. He said if I wanted a refund of my initial payment plus the cost to send the money via Moneygram he would issue the refund. He said it would be issued on March 28th (their pay period cycle date) and I would receive the refund as a certified bank check via overnight express. I was frustrated by this time due to my deadline with my car loan so I told Terry I would think about it and he indicated to let him know as soon as I could. At this point, I was going to end it and not go through with it but my car was a major concern so I was willing to try one more tactic and if it worked I would proceed.

I contacted my uncle on March 15th and after a lengthy conversation he was willing to loan me the money, so the next day (March 16, 2009) I contacted Terry that I had the additional money and he guaranteed me I would receive the funds in three (3) hours directly to my checking account since this was all that was left to do. I went back to Shaws in Porter Square, Cambridge MA and made another $760 transaction via Moneygram to the same person (Caroline Manning) and the same information noted above then contacted Terry Evans with the reference number (Ref# 84988224). He said I was all set and to keep an eye out for the deposit within 3 hours. 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours went by and still no deposit. By this time my bank was closed and transactions were closed so I had to wait until the next morning. I contacted Terry first thing the next morning on March 17th and indicated I did not receive the funds. He said he would look into it and call be back in an hour or so. I contacted Terry after a couple of hours and he indicated the lending bank had pulled out on my loan and decided they didn't want to give me the loan. Terry indicated to me he had another lending group that was willing to give me a $10K loan but required more money and I said "absolutely not" and refused. I told him if he could not find me another lending company with the initial payment I had already made by Friday, March 20th I did not want to pursue any further and wanted my money refunded. He then indicated he would search for another lending company for me based on what I had already put down and would contact me.

We went back and forth for the last four (4) days up until March 20th and at that time I informed Terry I did not want to pursue a loan any longer and wished to have a refund issue. He informed me he would process the refund which would be mailed out via overnight express on Friday, March 28th and I would receive sometime between 10AM and 3PM on Saturday, March 29th. I requested a overnight tracking number and he indicated he could not provide me one because the refund is issued via another department and everything is done by automation so the tracking number would not reach me in time (I would already receive the refund). I expressed this didn't make any sense and a person is always given a tracking number to track a package but he kept on insisting any problems I could reach him.

Saturday, March 29th I remained home the entire day because I was not feeling well and the overnight package never came. I could not contact their office over the weekend because they are closed. I spoke with a friend over the weekend about my situation and she referred me to the Cambridge Consumer Affairs Department to see if I could get any assistance on my complaint.

Today, March 31st I made two (2) attempts to contact Terry Evans regarding my refund. The first attempt I left a voicemail message expressing concern and the status of the refund. I also went back to the Better Business Bureau site to obtain their information again but their listing is no longer. I remember they were out of Plainsfield or Plainsville, NJ. I believe that the information is listed on my paperwork but that may not even matter anymore at this point.
