Different Kinds of Reports

In case you’re thinking, “Hey, I have a friend at a bank or mortgage brokerage who can pull my credit report for me,” think again. While it would be lovely to get your report for free, the reports sent to consumers are different from the ones sent to businesses.

You want the report designed for consumers because it’s much easier to read, with the names and contact numbers for businesses spelled out (rather than listed by numerical code).

The consumer version contains information on companies that have accessed your credit report for promotional purposes, such as pre-approved credit card offers, while the business-to-business version does not.
