What is a credit score?

It’s a numerical expression of how well you are likely to handle credit based on information that’s been sourced by credit reporting agencies. Your credit score plays a critical role in your overall financial life, and has a direct impact on whether or not you'll be approved for a credit card, a personal loan, a mortgage or any other type of financing -- and at what interest rate and terms.

Credit scores are generally based on five areas of your credit report: payment history, debt usage, credit age, account mix, and credit inquiries. Your score (or should we say the score we provide you) is based on the data in your Experian credit report. In fact, we provide you with two credit scores – the National Equivalency Score and VantageScore 3.0.
