Advantages to the Blue Cash Everyday Card From American Express

By earning 3% cash back on up to $6,000 spent each year at U.S. supermarkets (then 1%), and unlimited 2% cash back at U.S. gas stations, families are able to earn rewards on the purchases they make the most.

Finally, this card comes with a healthy array of purchase protection policies that allow you to shop with confidence and avoid purchasing the costly extended warranty coverage sold by retailers.

Disadvantages to the Blue Cash Everyday Card From American Express

While this card does have a generous cash back offer, it isn’t as good as the Blue Cash Preferred card from American Express. The Preferred version of this card offers 6% cash back on up to $6,000 spent each year at U.S. supermarkets (then 1%), 3% at U.S. gas stations and select department stores and 1% on other eligible purchases. The Blue Cash Preferred card does have a $95 annual fee, but many cardholders will still come out ahead even once this fee is considered.

The 0% for 12 months on purchases  and balance transfers interest-free financing is competitive for a rewards card, but not as competitive as other offers from non-rewards cards that can be 18 months or longer. Therefore, those who are primarily looking for a promotional financing offer should focus on finding a card with a longer interest-free period, and not on earning rewards. (You can see our roundup of the best cards for balance transfers.)

Finally, this card has a 2.7% foreign transaction fee for all charges processed outside of the U.S.. Cardholders who frequently travel abroad may want to consider using one of the cards that no longer have this fee. In addition, the bonus cash back at U.S. supermarkets and gas stations is only valid for purchases made within the U.S..
